Autographs later...

Chloe and Zoe have made the Daily Corgi again. They are beginning to make unreasonable requests. They want feather pillows in their crates, just blue M&Ms in their playpen food dish, and new collars with a little bling on them. What's next? Tiaras?

Dreams of Summer

Kathy over at Four Dog Day has been experiencing a lot of winter too. Her post this morning got me thinking about our summer plans and summer in general. As a teacher, I am blessed with oodles of time off in the summer. I love that.

Last year we took the big road trip. It cost a lot and took a lot of time. This year we won't take a big trip.

We have talked about camping. There are so many wonderful places to camp in Oklahoma. If any of you Okie bloggers have recommendations for places to camp, let me hear them.

Mostly, we don't plan to go much further than our own back yard.

Right now this...

Seems such a long way from this.

The Aftermath...

The ice storm is over, but the snow continues.

We have a few inches and it is lovely and peaceful.

Older daughter was supposed to audition Saturday for a summer arts camp, but it was canceled. It will get rescheduled. Another snow day.

Cabin fever will set in soon.

It's looking ugly for parts of Oklahoma. We are fine here, so far. But we are ready.

No school today means more corgi snuggling.

Patiently waiting for her snuggle time.

The man of house found one. He hunted it down, stalked it, waited patiently for just the right time to strike and then BAM! out came the debit card and it was his.

Over the weekend I asked the man of the house if perhaps we should buy a generator. See, last week we lost power for seven hours and realized we have no water when we have no power. We have talked about a generator before and know we need one. I asked last weekend because the weather guys started talking about a serious storm. Man of the house shot down my awesome idea that we needed to get a generator that very day.

Today he texts me... "Do we need to get a generator? Like today? Like right now?" Sheesh! Ya think?? The forecast is not good. There is a good chance we will lose power. There isn't a generator to be found.

The chicks and I moved the wood pile closer to the house. I'm cooking up some stuff in case we cannot cook. I got the camping lamp down and will dig out the camping stove. We have bottled water and will fill the bath tubs.

If the power goes out we will be OK. But a generator sure would be nice to have. Maybe next storm!

The Sweet Smell of...

Paperwhites?  Really?  I found the smell putrid. The flower, and I am sooooo glad I only got one bulb, was pretty. It was very easy to force. I had never forced a bulb before. But the smell forced me to put it outside on the front porch. Next time ~ tulips.

The Heatwave Begins!

The weather guys say we will get above freezing today and mostly stay there for a week at least. We still have some snow and a lot of ice from the septic sprays (gotta love that rural solution for sewer lines!). Today it should all melt.

Hopefully, I am done feeding the crows.

They have been lurking and patiently waiting everyday. Today they are hanging out on our skating rink / pool.

As soon as the dogs come inside to warm up they are on that food like, well....crows on dog food.

Tater and Mr. Dumbles are fascinated by the birds. I'm sorry about the corgi nose prints on the door.

Happy Birthday Cloe and Zoe

One year ago our girls were born. They had one brother and six other sisters. The brother was a tri, a few sisters were goldens and then there were a few fluffies. It was not easy choosing our girls. But even though Chloe gives us fits with her unruly behavior, I'm glad we got these girls.

They ran like bunnies!
They fought like sisters! Still do!

Happy Birthday Chloe and Zoe!

A year in pictures

As I read through my favorite blogs and columns, I get the feeling that just about everyone is glad to kiss goodbye this decade. Collectively, as a nation, this decade was a real letdown. But every year we get to start anew.

As I browsed my photos I got to take a mini-trip down memory lane. My family had a pretty good year. There were losses, but all in all it was a good year.

In January we saw the "Walking with Dinosaurs" show in OKC. It was really amazing and the girls loved it!

In February we lost our sweet, sweet Abbey. She was a rescue and we had her such a short time. When we adopted her, Sophie said she was our "forever dog". We did not realize her "forever" would be so brief with us. But she did pave the way in hearts for these...

...little girls that we brought into our home in March. Our backyard would never be the same!

"April is the cruelest month..." Eliot said it all for me. I still miss you Dad...

In May, my sweetest class ever, completed their 6th grade lesson and went on to 7th grade. Many of them come back to visit and I love seeing them.

Noodle celebrated her 10th birthday and we contracted the pool!

July ~ We spent nearly two weeks traveling west and the highlight will always be our time at the coast.

August ~ The pool was finished...nuff said!

September ~ 14 years of goofiness and sweetness and bliss!

In October my students won the door decorating contest for Drug Awareness week and I was nominated for Teacher of the Year at my site. I did not win, but the teachers that went on to the district level are such amazing teachers. One was Noodle's 4th grade teacher and she rocks! The other two work with our special and most challenged students. They need to be recognized every single year. They are awesome!

In November I spent four delicious days at the Quartz Mountain Lodge for Arts Integration.

This is some of the art I created. I am woefully challenged, but what matters is I learned so much to take back to my classroom.

December ~ The Christmas Eve blizzard!

Mr. Dumbles hopes everyone has a wonderful 2010!
