Route 66 in NM and an RA update

Old route 66 runs right through the heart of Albuquerque and many of the motels and signage from the era still exist. I apologize for the iphone pics. I did take my Nikon, but never seemed to grab it when we left the hotel.

The last two picture look like I stepped back into the 1950's or 60's.

RA update ~ My rheumatoid arthritis seems to have been tamed by the humira. I usually take my shot every other Thursday, but we were halfway through Oklahoma City last Thursday, on our way to New Mexico, when I remembered I did not get my shot. I quickly checked the internet for info on taking the shot late and learned I would be fine. As soon as we got home, man of the house gave me the shot. The humira is not without possible side effects. Fortunately they are rare. I am more at risk for serious infection, so if I get sick or run a fever I need to call the doctor.

I am not sure how long I will be on this treatment. From my research, I have learned that these biologics ( humira, embrel, remicade) just seem to quit working. I am glad that my treatment seems to be working, but I have such ambivalence regarding my diagnosis. I really think I have some denial going on. That doesn't mean I am going to stop treatment or not go to the doctor. It means I just haven't reached full acceptance.  In time...

Your photos are great. Those signs really take me back in time. Glad to hear your medication is working.

Glad Humira's doing its job. You never know, some people stay on the same biologic for years and years.

But I know your fear, it's a constant battle, isn't it? Finding something that your body can take, that actually works, then hoping that it doesn't conk out. Then back to the start again..

Your pictures from your iphone are still way better than anything I can do. :) I hope you are still feeling better- when you have a second, head on over to pick up an award I gave you. :)

How fun!! I am glad you are feeling okay! You're just missing heat and more heat back in OK! :/

Those pictures were probably "enhanced" by the fact they were taken with your phone... gives them that retro-60's look.

I was working at Centocor around the time they got Remicade approved by the FDA - I was involved in the process of getting the "study material" changed into a "drug". I saw some amazing pictures of joint damage and how it was improved by anti-TNF (Remicade). What it did with Crohn's Disease was equally amazing. I hope in the intervening years they managed to get rid/minimize of some of the side effects.

I hope Humira helps you feel good (again) for a long, long time.

Oh my gosh, you are making me so nostalgic with the Albuquerque photos! I love the Hiland theater. I went to high school like 2 blocks away from there. :) We call that area Nob Hill, and it was such a fun hangout. The Hiland theater went from being derelict to being revived, and back again. Not sure how it is now, since I haven't lived there in 7 years. Gotta love Route 66!
