As of today, I have two teenagers...

Today is Noodle's birthday, she's thirteen, and older daughter started driver's ed. *sigh*

I wrote this poem for Noodle last week and she scampered around the back yard. Yes, she scampered, because last week she was twelve and still my small girl.

Summer Morning on the Porch

Sophie, sitting at the edge
of the water,
blowing dandelion fluff
that slowly drifts like summer snow.

Bobwhites sing to their girlfriends.

Sophie, walking the length of
the pool,
longing to enter despite
The misty skies, cool breezes.

Puppy shadows follow her every move.

Sophie, cupping small pools
of water in her palm,
Savior of frogs, each one
named before it is freed.

Sweet.
Sad that my last "baby" will also be 13 in Dec.

This poem is so beautiful and full of that exact moment. You have a gift, dear friend.
Happy Birthday, sweet girl!

Love it.
Love the poem.
Love the picture.
Love the glasses.
(I've worn them since age ten- they add character!)

(It's the driver's ed one I'd be worried about LOL!)
