San Antonio

Our plan for vacation this year was a road trip west, but we had to adjust a bit to allow for Noodle's recovery from mono.

We chose San Antonio and spent a few days, at a very leisurely pace, enjoying a short, easy vacation.

We spent day one on the road. After checking into our hotel, we found the closest Mexican place and had a very good meal. It was slightly different from Oklahoma style Tex-Mex, but we really liked it!

My dinner at Papasitas. I ordered a three-taco place and had devoured two before I remembered to take a picture!

The next day we visited the Alamo, San Antonio's lovely Riverwalk (complete with boat ride), and had lunch at a British Pub. My two England-crazed daughters were thrilled!

In front of the Alamo. That girl in the background insisted on photo bombing all my Alamo shots!
The famous Riverwalk

There are some lovely Gardens around the Alamo. we saw these Koi there and they were freaking huge!  I'd say about  2 2 1/2 feet long.

Gorgeous mural!

"I can't believe I'm in a British Pub and I'm going to order Fish and Chips!!!"

River boat cruise...

The next day we braved Sea World. We did not go on any rides and we took our time, rest and rehydrating often.

Dolphin feeding

Mama sea lion and her baby.

The girls got to feed these greedy guys!

The main reason for going to Sea World was to meet this guy. We got to visit the penguin habitat, learn how they're fed, meet with their caretakers, and actually pet penguins. It was thrilling, it really was.

This is mated pair. They mate for life.
Our last day was spent on the road again.

All in all it was a nice little trip. We went at the right time, before it gets too busy and too hot. There were just the right amount of people, but no real crowds. Sea World was busy, of course, but not overly so.

I definitely recommend a visit!

I was there in 1987 at Ft. Sam Houston when Pope John Paul was there. What a awesome experience.
